Dear Newcomb Central School District Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already in our third week of remote learning. I am beyond impressed as to how our students, teachers, and families have joined together to navigate this new learning modality. The dedication and commitment that I have witnessed make me so proud to be a part of our school community.

There are a few updates that I would like to take a moment to share with you.

Extended School Closure: On March 27, the Governor issued an executive order to extend school closures through April 15, 2020. While I believe it unlikely, please be aware that if the Governor does not extend the school closure past April 15th, NCS will be required to be back in session on Thursday, April 16. I will continue to monitor all available guidance and directives and keep you informed of any changes.

End of the Third Marking Period: Friday, April 3rd marks the end of the third marking quarter. Teachers are continuing to review assignments and take attendance during all remote learning experiences. Report cards will be going home and numerical grades will be given for all students. Grades will be generated by compiling the 5 week marking period grade, in conjunction with a participation rubric for online learning. A copy of the participation rubric will be included along with report cards.

Spring Break: Per the Governor’s orders, schools are required to follow their plans for continuity of instruction, meal delivery and childcare resources every weekday between now and April 15th. This order includes those days which were originally part of the previously scheduled spring break. We recognize that everyone has been working very hard during this time and we will continue to strive to provide learning experiences for your child over the April break that are engaging, educationally relevant and fun.

School Budget Vote: The governor has postponed the budget vote until June 1st or later.

School Board Elections: The governor has postponed school board election votes until June 1st or later.

Board of Education Meeting:  To comply with the open meetings law, as well as respect safe social-distancing practices, Newcomb’s Board of Education will be conducting board meetings virtually.  For our upcoming Board of Education meeting on Thursday, April 9th, we will post a link for public participation on the district’s website in advance.

We recognize that this is a stressful and challenging time. Please know that we are here to support you and will look for ways to help.

Until we share space again, stay healthy and in good spirits,

Chris Fisher
