NCSD Common Core Resources

Here is a sharing place for Common Core resources used by NCSD teachers. If you have trouble adding a resource, please send a help ticket to Mr. Bocinski.

Close Reading Protocal:

1) Select a text that supports instructional goals and meets grade level reading targets. Our School Librarians can assist you with this.

2) Every reader in every content area approaches the text in the following way:
  • Read the text.
  • Annotate (mark up) the text to indicate close reading.
  • For every annotation provide an explanation in the form of margin notes.
  • Outcomes that benefit students to be determined by the teacher: Ask questions of the text, have the students do written responses, socratic circles, discussion starters...

3) Close Reading Annotations:
  • Circle or box unfamiliar words.
  • Underline important ideas.
  • Put a question mark (?) next to a section you're questioning or confused about.
  • Use an exclamation point (!) for ideas that strike you or surprise you in some way.
